The opportunity
This role builds the opportunity pipeline and the evidence base behind underlying-manager selection. Working with the CIO, the role will establish a repeatable process for identifying relevant GPs, assessing their strategies and track records, and turning market access into a defensible manager universe.
What you will lead
- Map the target GP universe across the strategies approved for consideration, including private equity, secondaries, continuation vehicles, private credit and venture capital.
- Develop sourcing channels and maintain senior relationships with GPs, secondary specialists and relevant market participants.
- Coordinate qualitative and quantitative due diligence on team, strategy, track record attribution, realised outcomes, portfolio construction, terms, governance and alignment.
- Review fund documentation, fee and carry structures, valuation policies, key-person terms, conflicts and reporting practices with specialist advisers as required.
- Prepare concise investment-screening notes and due-diligence memoranda for CIO and investment-committee review.
- Build a structured manager database and monitoring calendar, including follow-on funds, personnel changes and material portfolio developments.
Experience and approach
- Relevant professional experience in private-markets manager research, investment due diligence, a fund-of-funds, allocator, secondaries investor or GP investment team.
- Strong financial analysis and the ability to assess performance data, attribution, benchmarks, fund terms and underlying risks.
- A well-developed network is helpful, but evidence of rigorous research and relationship-building matters more than volume of contacts.
- Clear written communication and the ability to identify gaps, conflicts or weak evidence in a manager narrative.
- High standards of confidentiality, documentation and investment-process discipline.
Initial priorities
- Create the initial GP universe and screening criteria for the proposed investment strategy.
- Define a practical diligence workflow, scoring framework and investment-paper template.
- Identify a first group of managers for research and develop a transparent method of comparing unlike strategies.
- Specify the data needed for ongoing monitoring and portfolio-level aggregation.
What success looks like
A qualified, well-documented pipeline of managers; a consistent diligence process; and timely, decision-useful information for the CIO and investment committee.
